Foul Play Cafe
Albuquerque's premier Interactive Mystery Dinner Theater

An evening with Foul Play Cafe

We are frequently asked how the show works for the night. So in response to this question, here is a break down of the format our shows follow.

We have shows most Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 PM with seating starting at 7:00 at the Sheraton Uptown, located at the corner of Louisiana and Menaul. We also have some special event dates. Please see our Show Calendar for exact dates.

If the show will have gun fire (we fire blanks from realistic prop guns), strobes, or other effects that are known issues these will be announced ahead of time on the website, mentioned during the reservations phone call, AND will be posted at the shows.
  • When you get to the Sheraton, we are usually in either the "Roxy" or the "Baldwin". If you have entered by the front door, just go past the front desk and the elevators, you will see their "ABQ Grill" Restaurant, and these rooms are to the immediate left and right, so if you look either way, we will have a large sign in the hall (usually around 6:40 PM) that will help point you to the right place. Otherwise, you can ask at the desk for directions.
  • When you find us, check in with our desk outside the room we are in for the evening and pay at that time if you have not prepaid, we will give you a seating ticket.
  • When the doors open at 7:00 PM, give your seating ticket to one of the ushers (they are cast members already in character for the evening) and they will take you to your seat.
    • How Seating Works: Our seating is "Family-Style" (we seat separate groups at the same table). On a typical night we will have up to 6 people to a table. Special events will typically have tables that seat 12.
  • When you sit down, the salad course is all ready at your table.
    • Usually we have a cocktail server provided by the Sheraton that is available once the doors open to start taking your alcohol or soda orders (this is a separate cost from the show with Basic Package). If we have a sufficiently large crowd (50+), a cash bar may be provided instead. Alcohol purchased from the Hotel's bar or the cash bar can be brought into the dining room.
  • We will flash the lights to let you know that the show is about to begin, and we will flash the light at the end of each act letting you know that the act is over. (If the lights go down and stay down, don't panic... it's part of the show, unless we announce otherwise).
  • The show is usually 4 short acts, and during each intermission the actors will serve a course of the meal in character. While this is going on you can ask them questions.
  • During the show we typically single out Audience members in the following ways:
    • In the type of show we do the audience is always there for a reason, such as a family gathering, a class reunion, jurors, etc.
    • Some of our scripts have "guest" characters and we scout the audience as we seat them for people who look like they will play along or specifically mention they want to. (IF someone has requested they don't want to be part of the show, we will note that on the seating ticket so the actors know this too).
    • Some scripts have a short "game" or other contest that we will call on audience members to participate in.
  • During the dessert course (or the 4th break if its a 5 act show), we will ask you to fill out and turn in your Sleuth Sheets. (Hint: Our script format always has one of the cast members as the murderer.) We will also ask you at this time to remember to pay your cocktail server separately from the tips you leave the actors.
  • At the end of the show, we take any correct sleuth sheets and have a drawing for a T-shirt (XL), that proclaims you solved the mystery for the show. These t-shirts are win only, and have the current shows logo on the back. (If you really want a different size you may request a basic FPC shirt instead)
