Foul Play Cafe
Albuquerque's premier Interactive Mystery Dinner Theater

About Us

This is a great way to spend a night out with friends or celebrate special occasions as you play detective to solve the mystery while enjoying a four-course dinner. Our shows consist of four (and occasionally 5) 10-30 minute acts with courses served at intermissions. Full show and dinner takes about 2.5 hours.

The actors (who are also your wait staff) are in character from the time they seat you until the end of the night when they select the super sleuth for the evening. The shows are performed “environmentally” - that is the action is occurring throughout the room and not on a stage. Audience participation is encouraged but not required.

Our shows are fairly intimate, most nights, with us playing for groups of 15-60 guests. For information on current price and menu, please visit the show's page you are planning on attending. Reservations are required in advance.

Foul Play Café is highly recommended by our TripAdvisor reviewers (see for yourself).

About the Owners:

EDDIE DETHLEFS
Co-owner and Artistic Director of Foul Play Cafe

As Artistic director Eddie frequently directs our shows, and when we have a guest director, he gets to act in them, that is when he is not out doing shows elsewhere or film work. Eddie graduated from UNM in 2001 with a BA in Theater Arts and a focus on Directing.

He has been acting since 1989 when he took a role in “A Chorus of Disapproval” at the Hunter Army Air Field Dinner Theater in Savannah GA.  He later joined up with Mystery Café Albuquerque (2002-2009), so this man knows his dinner theater.

CORA BRITTAIN
Co-owner and Company Director of Foul Play Cafe

Cora handles everything behind the scenes to make Foul Play Cafe what it is. She primarily considers herself our business administrator and marketer, but she also handles our costumes, non-acting related training and anything and everything else that goes into making a business function. She graduated from UNM in 2005 Magna Cum Laude with a BA in Rhetoric and Communications.

While Cora isn't an actress, she is a costumer and has been sewing for almost two decades now. She has primarily aided in costuming at ALT locally, and was costume mistress at several shows there prior to starting Foul Play Cafe. These days she continues to refine her craft when she has time and sews costumes for herself and private
commissions.
