"Spirits of Suspicion" by David Landau

"A comic tribute to the THIN MAN movies.  Dick and Dora Charles are invited to a seance at the Top Hat Club, owned by Dick's old friend Bunny.  Bunny wants to contact her murdered husband, Rocky - a gangster who supposedly hid a million dollars somewhere in the club. But the seance goes awry as a female patron of the club becomes possessed by both Rocky and the female singer who was murdered along with him. Dick and Dora face off to see who can be the first to solve who killed Rocky and where the missing million dollars is in this 1940's style mystery."

Rick, now the manager of Cafe Noir on the island of Mustique, finds himself confused by a corpse at the dock, a mysterious woman, a French blackmailer and a businessman after both the Cafe Noir and the femme fatale Sheila Wonderly. Rick is arrested after the murder of the blackmailer in his club and it's up to the you the audience to convince the magistrate of his innocence.

Les craves appreciation for his art, but his paintings hurt the eyes. Meanwhile, people love his cooking and flock to his cafe/gallery, turning a cold shoulder to his paintings. After Les turns up dead, he comes back as a ghost to solve his own murder. Was it his helium-breathed girlfriend who thought his art would be valuable once he died, or his lost-in-the-60s assistant cook who loved Les’ girlfriend? Or was it Les’ sister who never got any family love, or Les’ feminist neighbor, torn by her love for him and who might have killed him to meet him in another life?

The cafe's owner has washed up murdered and the gal he came to find was the last person seen with him alive. Now he must use his hard-boiled detective talents to find the real killer. Was it the French Madame and manager of the club, the voodoo priestess, the shyster British attorney, the black marketeer, or the femme fatale herself?

Wealthy explorer Sir Wallis Burgess is dead, his ashes in an urn he retrieved from the recently discovered tomb of the Mesopotamian God of the Underworld, Nergal. Some say he died of the curse. Others suspect his greedy wife, his mysterious mistress, his double-crossing partner or the dangerous followers of the Underworld God. It is up to adventuress Virginia Jones to discover which as well as what became of the map of the catacombs and the Eye of Nergal. To do so she must battle wits and skills with her arch nemesis the Baron DeFalcon, as well as their mutual desire for one another.
